And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech.' language saphah {saw-faw'} Speech- dabar Opening of the mouth, or from the book, or word.
And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. Shinar- "country of two rivers" is the ancient name for the territory later known as Babylon or Chaldea. The three sons of Noah: Ham, Japheth and Shem. started out together, in the cradle of civilisation, in the Land of Shinar, or Babylon. Ham, father of Cush, stays in that region. Cush is the father of Nimrod, the first great world leader, and the first example of antichrist challenging the Lord who created all. The tribes of Ham/ Cush/ Nimrod become powerful, and developed the skills of building and brickmaking. This gave them the ability to build upwards. What's the problem with build up? What's the problem with all men as brothers, speaking one unified language? God had told them to spread out and populate, but, instead of taking the journey, the ancestors of Ham/ Canaan defied God to build a city and temple to another god. . For us today, building upwards saves precious space, but, with these sparse families, this wasn't the reason. They desired to build upwards, to climb to the lofty heights of God and disobey his command to "go forth." This tower was a ziggurut temple to idolatrous gods, already gaining popularity opposing the Creator. This is contrary to God's plan. This is an important factor in understanding the reason that Babylon is used and referred to in the Bible. It's a crucial key.
And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top [may reach] unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. This phrase is powerful: "And the LORD YHWH came down to see the city and tower which the children of men builded" Powerful.
And the LORD said, Behold, the people [is] one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Not only does God come down, but, he is faced with the dilemna in Eden, where the created mankind is already challenging GOD!
Gen 11:7 | Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. Babel= Babylon Hebrew BaBeL.

But Sarai was barren; she [had] no child.
And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
