Genesis 24- From Sarah to Rebeka

Gen 24:1 And Abraham was old, [and] well stricken in age :
and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.

Gen 24:2 And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his
house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I
pray thee, thy hand under my
thigh :

Gen 47:29 And the time drew nigh that Israel must
die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him,
If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee,
thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and
truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt.

Gen 32:25 And when he saw that he prevailed not
against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh;
; and the
hollow of the thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled
with him.

Psa 45:3 Gird up thy sword upon [thy] thigh,
O [most] might, with thy glory and thy majesty.

Sgs 3:8 TThy all hold swords, [being] expert in
war : every man [hath] his sword upon his
thigh
because of fear in the night.

Hebrew for o3409 Yarek {yaw-rake'} x34
yarek / thigh

1) thigh, side, loin, base
a) thigh
(1) outside of thigh (where sword was worn)
(2) loins
a) (as seat of procreative power)
b) side (flank) (of object) c) base

thigh 21, side 7, shaft 3, loins 2, body 1; 34

The purpose of the thigh swearing is confusing
for us, in our multi-tasking frenzied existences.

How can you not honor someone's sacred
request, when your hand is under their thigh?
It was a deeply personal eye to eye moment
Sometimes we communicate more honestly,
verbally, eye to eye, than in the treachery of
the many crooked channels we create with
more laws we use to serve our purposes.

Even then, Abraham establishes a contract,
by telling his dear servant, and companion,
that he does not hold him at fault if he fails.
This is a parable for our encouragement, as
well, since, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

He only desired that if none of Laban's sisters
were suitable for Isaac, that he be not brought
there to settle for someone.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Gen 24:3 And I will make thee swear by the LORD,
the God of heaven, and the God of the earth,
that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son
of the daughters of the Canaanites among
whom I dwell:

Sarah was around 90 when she gave birth to Isaac,
and died at 127. While Sarah was alive, she had
an inveterate revulsion to the culture of Canaan,
and there was certainly a class distinction, too.

Yet, this was by design, since Sarah was assured
that her son, Isaac, would herald in the Messianic
Promise.

This was the nucleus of the royal family of the
line of King David, and then Christ, from the
beginning was it so. These events, in Gen 24
were signifigant in their culture, between
4-5 thousand years ago.

Gen 24:4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to
my kindred, and take a wife unto my son
Isaac.

Isaac was at LEAST 37, and traditionally
was cast as the quintessential "40 year
virgin!"

Sarah seems prejudiced, and she is,
but, why does God select her for
grace? She must have been a wonderful
person for God, who weighs the heart,
to love her enough to bless her above
other women. Not to mention the true
adoration and love for Sarah that
Abraham, who loved God, had for
her, too. She was made of good stuff.
Rebekah was going to be just as
beautiful, sweet, and sometimes
sneaky (for good).

Now that Sarah was gone, Abraham
couldn't leave, and return to his God,
without getting a great daughter-in-law,
for his already bereaved 40 year old
son, Isaac. He got Isaac a compassionate
and beautiful princess in Rebekah.

Isaac's wife's gene pool, and family
alliance was important. Royal Eugenics
employed good looks, but, most importantly,
a good and kind heart.

Gen 24:5 And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the
woman will not be willing to follow me unto this
land : must I needs bring thy son again unto the
land whence thou camest?

Gen 24:6 And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that
thou bring not my son thither again.

Gen 24:7 The LORD God of heaven, which took me
from my
father's house, and from the land
of my kindred, and which spake unto me,
and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy
seed will I give this land ; he shall send his
angel before thee, and thou shalt take a
wife unto my son from thence.

This magnificent allegory, to us, was a test
of the heart, in purpose, to find a good
hearted and loving spouse from the family
of Abraham and Sarah.

She took faithful Eliezer's breath away
when she stood out brighter than
the gold of fine bracelets and earrings..

I love meditating on these snapshots
of such blessed, mystical days of
the Patriarchs and Matriarchs.

Rebekah is the first figure of the
Bride of Christ, betrothed to the
Promise of God's Divine Purpose,
which is defined by love, beauty,
dignity, and hope of everlasting
joy and communion with God,
and all his heavenly creatures,
with humans who have been
redeemed, for his purpose.

There are layers of meanings, code
upon code, upon codex, upon ...line...

it's all there, but, first there's the
original masterpiece of meaning,
in the lives of the pillars of faith:
Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah,
Isaac and Esau, and all who
sought and followed God, from
the beginning.

What tender parables for us, too. Imagine
how joyful it was to the servant of Abraham,
Eliezer, to be a go-between in God's holy
union, by selecting Rebekah, whom the
angel guided him to the vicinity. Out of
faithfulness and insight, Eliezer recognizes
God's plan for Isaac and Rebekah, and their
descendents in the Messiah. His life's devotion
to Abraham, and God, will be more than
postumous immortality, but, everlasting
life eternally.

His Kingdom Come, ready or not.
These things, being studied in the
first half of Genesis, will decide the
fate of mankind, and nations, in the end,
as described, from the beginning.

Yet, there is symphony of joy
awaiting the faithful, like Rebekah,
who was rewarded with gold bracelets,
and precious things. We will be forever
bound to Christ, in the Beloved, and
loved as devotedly. Love is joy
everlasting. Blessed are those who
God brings together, in love.
