And Sarah died in Kirjatharba ; the same [is] Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.
Jos 14:15 And the name of Hebron before [was] Kirjatharba; [which Arba was] a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war. Jos 20:7 And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which [is] Hebron, in the mountain of Judah. and Kirjatharba, which [is] Hebron, in the mountain of Judah. I [am] a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight. Psalm 39:12 Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I [am] a stranger with thee, and sojourner as all my father [were.]
:"Out of my sight" is better translated "Out of my FACE"

Hear us, my lord: thou [art] a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead. _____________________________________
And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land [even] to the children of Heth.

And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,
That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which [is] in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you. The Cave of Machpelah/ Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron This site, in Hebron, is the second most visited place in the Holy Land, the first is the Temple Mount. in Jerusalem. The cave and adjoining field were paid for, in full, by Abraham, 3700 years ago, through the graciousness of Ephron, the Hittite, whose land it was, by right. It is nice to reflect on these "salad days" of brotherhood, when love kissed nations, in the model given by Abraham. Nations were blessed in him, then. He impacts our civilization, to its' very core, today, thousands of years later. Other than Lot's troubles, there was peace in Abraham's day, largely because there were decent powerful and princely men like Abraham, Abimelek, and Ephron, who respected eachother, and who all feared the LORD who created all. They treated eachother like brothers. When nations have good leaders, it's like when God is ruling with them. It's the opposite when people choose, or receive a dictator and tyrant in power. They become seeds in the winds, blown around by every capricious whim, as we witness in our own current times, with tyrannical leaders. Sarah, who died at 127, was laid to rest in the cave in the field, in Hebron, in Palestine, in the land of Canaan. Over the next 100 years, Sarah was joined in this mauseleum, by Abraham, Isaac, Rebekah and Leah. If only their original spark of Love decency, and brotherhood, would revive us now. The same blood ancestors today haggle over inches of sacred ground. They'd rather die than share even an inch. It all means something! It all cuts so deeply. ___________________________________________
And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, [even] of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,
Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that [is] therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.
And Abraham bowed himself before the people of the land.
And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou [wilt give it], I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take [it] of me, and I will bury my dead there
And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,
My lord, hearken unto me: the land [is worth] four hundred shekels of silver; what [is] that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.
And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current [money] with the merchant. _____________________________________ Why was it important for Abraham to pay for the buryingplace amongst Ephron, and the Canaanites of Heth in Hebron? Abraham establishes a contract, the same as when he drew up an agreement on the well in Be'ersheba, with Abimelek, the King of Gerar, in Southern Palestine. Abraham and Sarah ended their days in this region. No matter what the politics were, in that volatile region of the world, Abraham paid for and owns that region, in Hebron, to be passed on to the children of Isaac and Jacob. _________________________________________
